Between May 4–7, 2026, the IMAGO-MOL Cluster participated in a learning mission organized within the framework of the INNOMEDCATALYST project, bringing together representatives of the consortium members for several days of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation-focused discussions in Basel.

As part of the mission, the delegation attended the Swiss Biotech Day — one of Europe’s leading biotechnology and pharmaceutical events. The conference provided an excellent platform to present the MEDIC NEST Metacluster and the InnoMedCatalyst project to the international biotech and life sciences community, while strengthening connections with key stakeholders across the sector.

The delegation also had the opportunity to visit the Swiss Personalized Health Network and the Novartis campus. The Swiss model for secure and collaborative health data sharing for research purposes proved especially inspiring. The discussions offered valuable insights into the mechanisms and governance structures supporting data-driven innovation in personalized medicine.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Thomas R. Geiger, Davide Chiarugi, Sarah Vermij, Shubham K., Sabine Österle, and Julia Maurer for their openness, detailed presentations, and thoughtful discussions throughout the visit.

Another highlight of the mission was the opportunity to explore the dynamic innovation ecosystem of the Basel region. Through meetings and exchanges with local stakeholders, the consortium gained a deeper understanding of the extensive programs and support structures designed to empower the life sciences community at the heart of Europe’s pharmaceutical industry.

During these exchanges, consortium representatives presented the vision and objectives of the MEDIC NEST Metacluster and the InnoMedCatalyst project, emphasizing a shared commitment to advancing precision medicine, innovation, and cross-border collaboration across Europe.

Special thanks also go to Christof Kloepper and Dr. Alexander Becker for the warm welcome and for facilitating insightful discussions on the opportunities and challenges currently shaping the European biotech landscape.
